I’m just back from a trip to Germany to visit one of my closest friends, Daniel, who’s been held in solitary confinement 23h a day for the past ten months in a 2 × 5m cell.

My wake-up call today was Willow deciding to leave her bed and curl up next to my head to purr at top volume at about 6 a.m.
Since she's about 40% subwoofer by weight and has a window-rattling purr, it was impossible to sleep through but not a terrible way to wake up.
Pre internet I once drove half an hour home to get a dictionary to prove to my work colleague that the word gullible was in the dictionary. I was literally 2 mins away, on the way back, when it dawned on me.
