"why does software require maintenance, it's not like it wears down"
Because software is not generally useful for any inherent good; what matters is its relationship with the surrounding context, and that context is in perpetual change.
I wrote this, about Soma Labs, who make synths and stuff.
https://maxwainwright.com/soma/soma-is-a-russian-company.html
Soma is russian. Don’t buy stuff from russian companies.
The founder Vlad Kreimer is shady, at best. He chose russia over Ukraine, and acts and sounds very much like a pro-russian trying to hide.
Don’t buy his stuff. Don’t send money to the russian war machine.

The next time someone references #wikipedia for #zionism remind them that it is not a reliable resource, and has been vandalized in a coordinated and malicious manner.
Introducing Sonusmix, an app to easily manage audio routing in Pipewire. It features virtual devices, volume control, routing, application endpoints to manage entire applications at once, persistence, and some tools to work around some of Pipewire's issues. It's available as an AppImage, Flatpak, or Nix package. Feedback is highly appreciated, we have a Matrix channel too! Please let us know if you have any issues!
It's interesting how thin a skin the React crowd has. They think I'm being deeply antagonistic when, in fact, I've been holding my fire (and the confidences of consulting counterparties) for ~8 years. This has only served to make things look *better* than they really are.
The damage I'm seeing isn't just in the public sector, or limited to exceptionally bad cases. It's now ecosystem-wide, and JS-first culture owns a share of the blame.
But why do I care? A short thread.

@SomaFMrusty Have you heard about https://music-assistant.io/? Seems like "popping an arbitrary URL to Sonos" should be within its capabilities, and I've only learned about it recently.
What a beautiful launch of Europa Clipper on the Falcon Heavy this morning and what an amazing shot of the spacecraft separation that happened moments ago! Ad Europa!
Which piece of software is everything you wanted it to be?
For me [[Stellarium]] fits the bill -- it does everything I ever dreamed for observational astronomy. Checking out the user interface thoroughly was one "cool, that does something I wanted or might want" after the other.
