One of the biggest cultural issues we have is that no major media or journalistic institutions have been reinforcing norms of what things *should* look like. That corruption isnât normal, that cronyism isnât normal, that lies and scandals should be punished, that incompetence is disqualifying.
Theyâve simply stopped pointing out that there are any standards at are, or that there used to be a bar of any sort. And now an entire generation doesnât know this concept at all.

This is one of my favourite images from last autumn in Scotland's Ancient Caledonian Forest. In the dark of morning, I hiked up this pathless steep sided hill to gain a view over the magnificent glen beyond and was treated to an exceptional sunrise. Amazing to see all these regenerating pine saplings growing on the higher slopes.
