i was having fun drawing and i wanted to stream for my owner and i couldn't figure out how to stream the tablet screen so at one point i hit the "stop extending" button here to disconnect and reconnect the tablet

but after that it was gone, the system no longer saw it - it was still working, it still moved the cursor, but as far as the system was concerned it was no longer a display. reboots, reconnecting, different ports, different cables - nothing worked.

how do you fix this you ask?

by deleting a specific hidden system configuration file, of course!

and i had to figure that out on my own because there was nothing on it online
