Many hope for big #AI breakthroughs on #WorldSepsisDay. For #SPIEGEL, we analyzed the expectations. Our rule of thumb: AI could help 1 in 5-10 sepsis patients.
The main challenge for #ClinicalDecisionSupport is the evidence gap regarding patient outcomes. Studies fail due to a lack of compliant clinical platforms.
We are bridging this gap: in a few weeks, we're releasing our AMPEL platform as #OpenSource to drive AI early detection (not only) for #Sepsis.
World Sepsis Day is coming! Clinical Decision Support (CDS) can play a key role, as recommended by the German Society for Surgery in its latest press release.
And it’s urgently needed in Germany:
• Sepsis causes 1 in 15 deaths
• 230,000 cases occur every year.
• AI could help 1 in 5 -10 patients.

Productive day for our project scaling the 𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐄𝐋 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 to external clinics! Together with colleagues from Dresden & Leipzig, we tackled everything from UI/UX across different HIS to interoperability and regulatory requirements.
𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: With the activation of 𝐋𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐄 at Leipzig University Hospital, our platform is now officially in routine care — supporting staff in real-time.
How do we finally move #AI from the lab into clinical routine? Here are the key takeaways from @danielsteinbach talk at #MLK2026
▶️ We need real-world metrics like the Precision-Recall curve on clinical application cohorts, not just on training data.
▶️With its data affinity and cross-disciplinary perspective, laboratory medicine is perfectly positioned to lead #ClinicalAI.
▶️With the innovative AMPEL platform, we aim to bridge the (massive!) #EvidenceGap for AI #MedicalDevices.
We’re hitting major milestones in #DigitalHealth:
- Top 1: Our in-house medical device software is likely the first of its kind in Germany under MDR! 🇩🇪

- Future Top 1: With upcoming AMPEL algorithms, we’re set to become Europe’s CDSS with the highest evidence.🇪🇺
