It allowed me to relatively quickly answer a long-standing question of mine: how much bigger are the tides in Brittany than elsewhere in France. Answer: quite a lot higher in northern Brittany and up near the Straits of Dover than elsewhere, particularly the lower Atlantic coast (date: Aug 12 last, spring tide)
