Exciting news! We're being recognized by OSU for excellence in community engaged scholarship. https://osumarion.osu.edu/story/stemcoding
High school math teachers! We will be doing free online professional development around #datascience July 15-26. If interested please let us know at this link http://go.osu.edu/dstraining
It's #EarthDay !!! Check out the STEMcoding Earth Day hour of code activity where we analyze how shifts in the average temperature affect the climate at your location Here is the link http://go.osu.edu/earthdaycoding
We had a great time at the Ohio forum on high school data science yesterday. Big thanks to the Translational Data Analytics Institute for organizing it!
I had a great time today hanging out with folks from Ohio State astronomy at OSU Marion for the eclipse. The weather couldn't have been better!
Ricky and I make a brief but spectacular cameo in the new Ohio State video on Nobel Prize winner Pierre Agostini. See if you can spot us!
A new video on the STEMcoding object tracker drops tomorrow on the STEMcoding YouTube channel! http://YouTube.com/STEMcoding
Put a bird on it I'm in Portland for the SIGCSE conference! I finally made it to the biggest conference in compute science education
I caught this breathtaking photo on the flight in to SIGCSE in Portland. I finally made it to the biggest conference in CS education! @edutooters
@soulcutter In education research they typically prefer to leave an option in the middle so that if people express an opinion it's clear that it's something they are sure about
In 2017 we released the first pi day activity to hour of code. This year we are releasing a new version that explains parallel computing. Here are links to both:

Learning how to process decades of daily NOAA gridded global sea temperature data myself (as a teaching exercise for my data wrangling class) so I can make a version of this distressing graph you’ve probably seen already. The netCDF data format is quite neat, I’ll focus on that.
@pitch I don't think that part worked very well even before the site went down in 2022. The code is on GitHub if anyone wants to troubleshoot
@edutooters A friend of the STEMcoding project managed to rescue this super fun, very informative epidemiology game from internet oblivion. The game was developed by Marcel Salathe and collaborators but stopped working online in 2022. Enjoy! http://stemcodingohio.github.io/vaxgame/
Last week I was at the OETC conference down at the Columbus convention center (which hosted the Ohio CS summit). The word of the day is definitely "syzygy"
John Dutton got a nice picture of me presenting at the first inaugural Ohio CS summit! Here I am giving my usual sermon about how the black hole image in 2019 is a great example of how CS and modern science go hand in hand. @edutooters #iteachphysics #iteachmath
