Every month PG&E sends me an email comparing my energy use to that of "similar homes". While I'm certain we could be more efficient, looking at their numbers I'm forced to assume that the "similar" home is that of a person who:
- keeps the thermostat at 78℉
- eats out every day
- does laundry once a month
- takes cold showers
- uses an ancient flip phone as their sole electronic device
- is probably dead
Cleaning out my old car to sell it and discovered an *entire compartment that I never knew existed.* 10 years I've had this thing, jumper cables sliding around in the back, when a perfect little nook for them was RIGHT THERE. 😮💨 (I have no one to blame but myself for this, it's not like it was hiding or anything.)
I just discovered that my car's infotainment system is running on Chromium. The idea that the code that I write at work is running somewhere deep in the bowels of the vehicle that I drive is mildly unsettling...

Bought my first electric car over the weekend! A Volkswagen ID.4. It's been really nice so far, but also has tapped into a deep battery anxiety that I didn't realize I had. 😅 If the tank in my old car was 50% full I wouldn't think a thing of it. When I get into this car in the morning and see a battery symbol that's 50% full it sparks a moment of panic before I remind myself that it represents 100+ miles of driving.
Thanks for that, smartphones. (I'm sure it'll fade with time.)
